DIRECTION ISLAND

Add in shady shelters, eco toilets, walking trails, BBQs and wifi and it’s about as perfect as it can get! Well the wifi is questionable….

A short ferry ride from West Island, drops you off on the jetty and the day is yours do as you please. Hammocks are strung from trees inviting you to just stop and drop!

The palm trees around the shelters are adorned with memorabilia from visiting yachts. Looking out over the lagoon, it’s easy to see why Direction Island, and the Cocos Islands in general would be a perfect destination for yachties.

A must do on Direction Island is to snorkel the world famous ‘Rip’. It’s based at the Southern end of the island and allows you to drift among a huge array of marine life.

Back on shore, thousands of crazy crabs roam the shoreline, among shells, pebbles and seaglass.

Day trips to Direction Island via the ferry happen twice a week so check with the Cocos Island Visitors Centre for current departure days and times. Don’t forget to arrive fully self sufficient and if you plan on a bush walk, bring the mosquito repellent. This beach is heaven on earth.
